Faulkner County
Faulkner County was formed on April 12, 1873, from parts of Conway and Pulaski Counties and was named for Col. Sanford C. Faulkner, a fiddle player and tall-tale teller, who was given the name of being the original “Arkansaw Traveler.”
The county seat is Conway. The landscape of the county is rolling hills and farmland. Its proximity to Little Rock and to major transportation routes makes it attractive for industry and manufacturing. Population growth of the county is at its highest. Employers in Conway and Faulkner County encompass a wide range of businesses and industries.

The hub of Faulkner County is the city of Conway. Conway is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Little Rock on Interstate-40.
Lake Conway, the country’s largest Game and Fish Commission lake, has 6,700 acres of good fishing and Cadron Creek has excellent floating past scenic areas.
Conway is home to three colleges, earning it the nickname “The City of Colleges.” The University of Central Arkansas is a state college; Hendrix College is a nationally ranked private institution; and Central Baptist College is a private institution associated with the Baptist Missionary Association.

The city of Greenbrier is located 12 miles north of Conway along Highway 65. As of July 2007, the population of Greenbrier was 4,239 and growing steadily.
Greenbrier is home to Woolly Hollow State Park, Lake Bennett, and Persimmon Ridge Golf Course. Greenbrier also has some great hometown restaurants and flea markets, and the Battles Orchard Farmer's Market is only a few miles away.
Many Faulkner County residents who work in Conway or Little Rock choose to reside in Greenbrier because of its school system. The enrollment of the Greenbrier School District in September of 2007 was 2,875 students.

Vilonia is located 13 miles east of Conway on U.S. Highway 64. As of July 2007, the population of Vilonia was 3,326. Like Greenbrier, many of its residents are employed in Conway or Little Rock but prefer to live in a smaller town.
